    Description

For sale are two non-dug, coat-size, post Civil War / Indian Wars era US Army general service (enlisted ranks) eagle "sack coat" buttons with matching " -- STEELE & JOHNSON -- / MFG:CO" backmarks.
The first button (20 mm) is of the classic Civil War era design (1854-1875), specifically listed as Albert's GI94A3.  This example is in very good condition with a straight shank, some wear, a minor discoloration on the rim around 11 o'clock, and no pushes.
The second button (21 mm) is of the "chicken eagle" Indian War era design (1875-1903), specifically listed as Albert's GI98A3.  This example is in very good condition with a straight shank, some wear to the finish, and no pushes.
Tice, as well as McGuinn and Bazelon, each picture this backmark and date it c. 1875-1890.
For shipping, we use well-padded boxes, typically ship same- or next-day, and always combine costs on multiple lots (plus USPS insurance over 0).
