INDIAN WARS UNITED STATES ARMY MODEL 1876 MCKEEVER LEATHER CARTRIDGE BOX
(Inv no 0859-65 )
that
was used for the .45-70 caliber Government (trapdoor) cartridge.
The McKeever cartridge box was originally designed in 1874 and continued to be used in various calibers and styles by the US Army till 1910. This
is an example of the 1876 variant, which had a bulge in the side to make space for a small tool (not present) for disassembling the rifle.
Marked WATERVILLET ARSENAL on the bottom of the tab and C H (inspector mark?) on an inside flap. Has some crazing to straps and tab; worst is on tab. Stitching is tight. In a few places there is some very small pieces of a cross- hatched material. Apparently the box was stored with something and some of it adhered to the box. Not obvious but there. Starting price is .95. Shipping weight is 2 pounds 8 ounces.
