Up for auction is an Model 1872 Artillery Officer's Dress Saber. Condition is used.
Rarer than its 1872 cavalry counter part and the P guard 1872 artillery versions.
Filler blade has faint mark on the ricasso H.A. Winship (Henry A Winship) Boston Mass. Blade remains bright with some scattered oxidation, staining, and nonactive rust. Heaviest staining and light pitting is near the ricasso. The brass hilt with D-guard bow has nice mellow patina with cast floral decorations. The shark skin covered grip rates very good with tight braided brass wire. Leather washer is missing thus knuckle bow is loose. Nickle plated scabbard has scattered oxidation, pitting and small amounts of loss of finish. Nice example.
