Scarce Original lead filled 40th Infantry Co. officers hat pin 1870-80's era

See my other auctions for more early American military insignias-both dug and non-dug.  Very nice original pin Used by a NCO officer of the 40th Infantry. Early stamped brass insignia that had the back lead filled, as well as the letters/numbers.  Nice condition-with the original pin on the back. Never had a company letter on the bottom-thus belonged to an officer. These date to the 1870-85 period, and are far rarer then the solid brass type that were developed in the 1890's.  Measures approx. 2 1/2" wide.  Great display item!
