Description
For sale here is a very cool US Indian Wars Era M1878 Haversack. This one has several period modifications and has some amazing writing on the inside and outside. The pack is missing two buttons, the one at the bottom, and one of the internal flap buttons. Everything else is present and functional. The leather shoulder straps are in good solid condition and the hardware is all present. This bag has had leather strap holders and a carry handle added. It is pretty obvious that all of this was period done. The modifications are strong and well done. The pack shows plenty of water stains, carry, age, use, and has some seem separation along the bottom. The U.S. stamping is nice and crisp and there is a faded hand drawn A after it. I didn't see this for the photos, but the bag appears to be marked L.C. Robb Long Bear on the bottom. Under the flap, there are illegible markings at each of the reinforced grommet areas. The word Denver is written at the top of the flap. There is a calligraphy that appears to say B.H. Dyas Co. Dyas Company was a sporting goods store in Hollywood CA from 1905 to about 1930. Under the calligraphy is an address of 142 Pine Ave. There is also a Rock Island Arsenal maker's mark. I guess this haversack was sold as surplus by Dyas during the period of 1927 to 1930 based on the logo. This is a neat piece to add to your collection. Please see my other eBay store at Cadencemilitaria2 for more great items.
